The political refugee Poya comes from Iran and lives in Hamburg after his. He does everything he can to bring his wife Nikta to safety. As a political activist and video maker, he finds it difficult to trust strangers, as he is always afraid of putting the vengeful regime on his wife’s trail. When a passenger plane is shot down over Tehran and the political situation escalates, Pouya must overcome his paralyzing paranoia to save his wife. He must be able to believe he has found a friend.

Max Ophüls Preis 2021
Born in 1979 and raised in Tehran. He has worked in the film and art field for the last 15 years, published books and taught film and film analysis at several universities and schools in Iran. He also had a presence on various social media channels and had to leave Iran three years ago because of his critical stance towards the regime. In 2017, he completed the continuing education program “Digital Media for Refugee Media Professionals” at the Hamburg Media School. (Source: Max Ophüls Preis 20219)
